Working with Wendy

Reaching out to get support is a courageous act. Below you will find helpful information to support you in taking the first step.

How does the process work?

It start with a free 15 minute phone consultation to determine if we are a good fit.  Next, we will book an intake appointment, which is basically a getting-to-know-you session. In subsequent sessions, we work together to develop a plan to achieve what you are looking to accomplish with therapy. This plan is individualized to you to address your concerns and goals.

What do you focus on in counseling?

Solutions, right from the beginning our main focus will be where you want to head.  We discuss how you would like things to be and then begin the process of mapping this out.  This process is usually a combination of helping you understand yourself better, utilizing your strengths and all kinds of strategies, tools and resources.

Do you provide video counseling?

Yes, video counseling is available.  All you need is a quiet, confidential room/space, internet access, and a computer, tablet, or cell phone. I use the teletherapy system through Simple Practice, which is HIPAA compliant and encrypted. Shortly before your appointment time you will receive a link in your email to login and begin your session. My license allows me to provide counseling to residents of California.

How long do I need to be in therapy?

Most clients attend weekly for the first 10-15 sessions. After a few months, many clients are seeing progress and then may choose to start spacing sessions out as they go forward.   In the beginning I recommend weekly sessions, because it allows us to have more continuity with what we're working on from session to session. This helps us to keep the momentum going and make quicker progress.  I don’t want you to be in therapy forever and I want you to start feeling better as soon as possible!

How do I know when I’m done with counseling?

Because we have set clear goals and mapped out where you want to head, I will check in periodically on your progress in moving towards those goals and we’ll make adjustments as needed.  As you move closer to meeting your goal we will begin to discuss finishing counseling.  I believe that you shouldn't have to depend on your therapist for the rest of your life. It’s my job give you tools to help you tackle the hard things. When you reach your goal, we wrap things up.

How much does it cost to work with Wendy?

50 minute sessions are $175

I do accept FSA and HSA accounts, but I don’t take insurance. I am happy to provide you with a form you can send in to your insurance for possible reimbursement. That means you’re responsible for the fees at the time of our appointment and, depending on your insurance coverage, a certain percentage of that may be reimbursed to you by your insurance company.

I encourage you to call the number on the back of your insurance card to find out what your “out-of-network” benefits are so there aren’t any financial surprises. Ask them where to send what’s called a “Superbill,” that’s the form I’ll give you. I will send you the form and all you need is the address.
